Darmstadt-Dieburg is North East Derbyshire's twin district in Germany.

 
A twinning union was made between the districts of North East Derbyshire and Darmstadt-Dieburg in 1963, in order to promote international links, foster friendship, encourage economic activity and develop understanding between different cultures.
 
Over the years, the regions have worked together developing friendships, contacts and numerous exchange visits have been held with families in each district playing host to their visitors.

Darmstadt-Dieburg, much like North East Derbyshire, is a semi-rural district surrounding an urban centre. With about 290,000 inhabitants in 23 communities, the district represents a significant proportion of the metropolitan Frankfurt Rhine-Main-Neckar region.
 
The district enjoys the advantages of both urban and rural life through the combination of a countryside location and close proximity to Darmstadt, the City of Science.
