The Verification Framework is a Government initiative which is designed to help combat Housing/Council Tax Benefit fraud.
North East Derbyshire Council supports this initiative in an effort to make sure that Benefits are paid to those who need them and are entitled to them. This will mean that more thorough checks are required before a benefit claim is assessed but still means that Benefits are available to those in need.
The Verification Framework requires all benefit customers to comply with a stricter level of checks, for example:
only original documents will be accepted as proof, copies will not be accepted
you must provide evidence of your (and your partner’s) identity
you must provide evidence of all of your income, savings and capital.
These documents can be taken into the Revenues reception at Saltergate or the Area Cash Offices and will be photocopied while you wait.
The Verification Framework also requires the Council to visit each of its benefits customers within a set time period. The visits will be to verify that your circumstances are the same as those on which your claim is being paid.
These visits will also be useful for keeping in touch with customers and for answering any problems or queries that you may have about your benefit.
Failure to respond to these checks could result in benefit being suspended, therefore it is important to respond quickly to any letter that you receive from the Council.
If you have any query about the sort of evidence we will accept, see Benefit Claim - Proof we will need.
