Discretionary Relief
The Council also has the discretion to reduce all or part of the charge on other properties in rural settlements if the Rateable Value is 12,000 or less. We must be satisfied that the business is of significant benefit to residents of the local community, and that the business would suffer if the Discretionary Relief was not awarded.
Whenever Discretionary Relief is granted there is a cost to North East Derbyshire Council Tax payers. The Council must therefore balance the benefit to the business with the cost to the community when considering all applications.
The Council believes that the spirit of the legislation regarding Discretionary Relief is to assist businesses that contribute significantly to the quality of life of the people who live in the rural settlement.

Please contact the Revenues section to request an application form(details below).
We will ask you to provide us with copies of your last two years audited accounts, and will invite you to put a case forward, in your own words, as to why you should be granted this relief.
