Mandatory Relief
General Stores, Food Shops and Post Offices
The occupier of a general store, food shop or post office in a rural settlement is entitled to Mandatory Relief if it is the only general store, food shop or post office in that area and it's Rateable Value is 8,500 or less. Mandatory Relief is given at 50% of the annual charge. The Council may also award Discretionary Rural Rate Relief against all or part of the remaining 50%.
Pubs and Petrol Filling Stations
50% Mandatory Relief is also available to pubs and petrol filling stations that are the only one in that rural settlement, and have a Rateable Value of 12,500 or less. The Council may also award Discretionary Rural Rate Relief against all or part of the remaining 50%.
