Chesterfield Law Centre offers free, confidential help, advice and representation to individual and groups in the Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire districts.

Summary of services provided
Initial legal advice
We may not be able to take on a particular case, but we can always give confidential initial advice and information on any problem. Sometimes we will advise you to go to a solicitor in private practice or to another advice centre.
If you want to discuss any problem with us, call in to one of our drop-in sessions on Tuesday evenings or Friday mornings, or use our daily telephone advice services.
Casework
Casework can only be taken on for individuals who live in the Chesterfield Borough or North East Derbyshire District areas, and only in the areas of law highlighted below.
Work undertaken at all levels including information, advice and representation around:-
Housing (We do not act for landlords)
- Homelessness claims
- Defending possession proceeding
- Illegal eviction and claims for damages
- Disrepair
- Access to housing
- Working with tenants groups
- Non-return of bonds
We operate a duty scheme at Chesterfield County Court where we attend on possession days and offer to act for un-represented tenants.
Employment (We do not act for employers)
- Unfair dismissal
- Discrimination on grounds of race, sex, disability, sexual orientation, religion or belief.
- Rights in work ( including holidays, working hours and National Minimum Wage)
- Maternity and parental rights.
