Business
The Economic Development Unit (EDU) is responsible for a wide range of initiatives, which involve partnership work and attracting funds from a number of sources. The EDU works in-line with the programme and key objectives that are set out in the Council's Economic Development Strategy, produced jointly with Chesterfield Borough Council.
Council & Economic Development projects
The EDU co-ordinates the Council’s projects under the Single Regeneration Budget (SRB). They include reclamation and industrial development, managed workspace, land and property improvements and tourism promotion. The Section is closely involved with the various UK and European funding programmes, and has secured resources for a number of economic development projects.
Promoting the area to attract investment
The EDU provides information on the sites and premises available for local companies, for those wishing to relocate to this area and for those interested in starting up their own business. For those interested in starting up their own business we operate Managed Workspace Centres and work closely with other agencies in the area to provide business support and advice, such as Business Link.
Tourism
The EDU is active in promoting the area for tourism. We are members of the Derbyshire Tourism Officers’ Group and work to establish North East Derbyshire as a sustainable tourist / visitor destination. For more information about Tourism in our area visit the Tourism Zone.
Local community regeneration action
The Council employs project officers to help local people develop and implement regeneration plans for Eckington and Clay Cross. We are also partners in local regeneration initiatives in Holmewood and Killamarsh.
