Economic Development Strategy for North East Derbyshire 2008-2013
The Economic Development Strategy 2008 - 2013 for North East Derbyshire sets out a new vision for the District for the next five years and raises key issues with regard to the longer-term future of the local economy. It examines how the economy of North East Derbyshire fits in with the Regional and National economic picture and identifies key trends shown in the economic statistical data for North East Derbyshire, as well as key opportunities in the coming years.
Strategic Vision
The vision of the Strategy is to:
"Create a more dynamic, prosperous and sustainable local economy which adds value to its people's lives, plays a full part in maximising the benefits from the Sheffield City-Region and occupies a leading position in a flourishing East Midlands region. North East Derbyshire District Council seeks to create new and strong communities at the cutting edge of sustainable living, working with modern aspirations to build a future based on the knowledge economy whilst exploiting its heritage and tourist location."
In order to meet this vision, the Strategy sets out four priority themes for the District. These are:
Business Growth and the Knowledge Economy;
Urban Renaissance;
Rural Renaissance;
Skills Development.
Each of these themes has a number of key activities, with time frames, that are laid out in the Strategy.
