Using Ports

The East Coast Ports of Goole, Grimsby, Hull and Immingham are only 90 minutes away and provide excellent links with continental Europe and beyond.

Associated British Ports

With 23 ports around the country, Associated British Ports (ABP) is able to meet the needs of anyone wanting to transport goods into, out of, or around the UK.  ABP runs all the East Coast ports and more information can be found at their website http://www.abports.co.uk/.  The ABP website also includes information about each of the ports below.

Port of Goole

Goole is Britain’s premier inland port.  The combination of a strategic location at the heart of the country’s transport infrastructure along with extensive and expanding modern high quality facilities, enables Goole to provide a rapid and cost effective service to its customers.  Goole is located on the River Ouse, some 80 km from the open sea and 2.4 km from the M62, only a half hour’s drive is required to reach the industrial heart lands of West and South Yorkshire.

ABP has invested significantly in Goole to ensure the port continues to offer some of the most advanced facilities in the UK for both general and specialist cargo-handling.
Goole offers:

  • Reduced haulage costs due to the port’s close proximity to the UK motorway network
  • Availability of road, rail and canal transport
  • Numerous general cargo berths as well as specialised terminals for containerised traffic, timber, bulks, cement, cereals and scrap metals
  • A wide range of facilities for unitised, bulk and general cargoes
  • Particular strength in container handling
  • Almost 55,000 sq m of modern covered storage facilities

Hull is well connected to the UK’s national motorway network, allowing a market of 40 million people to be reached within a four-hour drive.

Hull offers:

  • 24-hour port security ensuring peace of mind.
  • World-class facilities developed through major capital investment schemes.

Port of Immingham

Immingham is one of Britain’s fastest growing ports.  The combination of a strategic location on the south bank of the Humber – the UK’s busiest commercial estuary – with extensive deep-water facilities and high-quality service, makes Immingham a market leader in the UK, and first choice for a wide range of customers and traffics.

Immingham offers:

Port of Liverpool

Liverpool docks are within 80 miles of Chesterfield and form part of the trade route to America.
The Port of Liverpool is ranked among the top ten North European container ports. The Port is currently the focus of major investment by Mersey Docks amounting to some £60 million.

The new control centre, at the Royal Seaforth Container Terminal, oversees a storage park where capacity has been increased by 30%.  Commercial demand has prompted development of nearly one million sq. ft. of new facilities including a 25-bay container receiving and delivery area for road haulage, a logistics centre, increased storage capacity, light industrial units, warehouses and two in-river terminals. There is already a Euro Rail Terminal with daily links to Europe through the Channel Tunnel.
