Carers Assessment

Derbyshire Social Services can arrange a care worker to meet with you to discuss your needs as a carer.  There may be services which could help you and they can record what support would  need to be put in place if there was an emergency.

How to get the best out of the carer's assessment?

It might be worth you making a list or keeping a diary recording everything you do as a carer.  For example:

  • Do you get enough sleep?
  • Is your health being effected?
  • Can you leave the person you look after on their own?
  • Might you have to give up work?
  • Do you get time to yourself?
  • Do you worry about your other commitments?

The assessment

  • The assessment can take place at your home or the home of the person you care for
  • If more than one person does the caring, both are entitled to an assessment
  • If things change you can ask for a review
