Our Disability Equality Scheme
We take equality seriously and are in the process of implementing our Disability Equality Scheme action plan.
The aims of the scheme are
- to promote equality of opportunity for disabled people,
- eliminate discrimination and harassment of disabled people and
- promote positive attitudes towards disabled people in relation to the services we provide.
- We also want to encourage participation by disabled persons in public life and take steps to take account of people's disabilities.
Disabled people have been involved in shaping the scheme from the outset and the scheme takes into account the issues that were directly raised by disabled people in relation to our services.
The attached scheme gives details of the steps we will take to improve our services and promote equality for disabled people. Although the consultation period has expired we still welcome your feedback. If you have any comments or feedback on our scheme or if you require the document in another format you can contact us using our online form, or by contacting our Equality and Diversity Officer (contact details at bottom of page).
We've also launched DisabledGo, a new online guide designed to help make life easier for disabled people. The guide gives detailed access information for over 300 premises across the District based on site visits by a team of experienced researchers.
