Gender Equality Scheme
The Equality Act 2006 placed a statutory duty on all public authorities to promote equality of opportunity between men and women and eliminate unlawful discrimination and harassment when carrying out it's functions.
The Act also established a requirement for Local Authorities to meet a specific duty to publish a Gender Equality Scheme demonstrating how it will meet it’s specific duties and set out its gender equality objectives.
At North East Derbyshire District Council we take equalities seriously and we understand that we need to listen to our service users to help us determine the issues we need to address with regards to gender equality. We have involved our key stakeholders including the public, employees and our Equality Steering Group in deciding what are our gender priorities and how we need to address these.
