What is 'Question Time'?
Schools from across the District will be invited to send a group of pupils to be involved in a Question Time Event’ run jointly between NEDDC and Natascha Engel MP for NE Derbyshire. Members of the North East Derbyshire Youth Forum will be invited along with representatives of a range of young people’s groups and forums.
The event will take place on the evening of Thursday 18th October, will be held in the Council Chamber, Saltergate, Chesterfield to give young people a real sense of involvement with the democratic process.
They will be invited to put their questions to a panel chaired by Len Tingle, Political Editor for BBC Look North. The panel will include Government Minister Geoff Hoon MP and Council Leader Graham Baxter together with representatives from Oxfam, Amnesty International, Friends of the Earth, and Respect for Animals. The local MP Natascha Engel will introduce the event.
It will be left to each school to decide who will represent them and to work with students on the questions to be put to the panel. To follow the tradition set by the BBC Question Time the panel members will not see the questions in advance.
