Garden Maintenance for Council Housing
Garden Maintenance for Rykneld Homes Housing (Private Gardens)
We may not all have huge gardens, but there are times when maintaining even the smallest patch becomes too hard!
The council offers a private tenant gardening service to enclosed gardens, free for tenants who need it most.
To qualify, you need to be a Rykneld Homes / council tenant, and not have any family or friends within North East Derbyshire who can tend to your garden. In addition, you will be required to meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Have a terminal illness and live on your own and have an agreed support plan
- Are older than 80 years of age and live on your own
- Are older than 60 years of age and have an agreed support plan
- Have a severe physical impairment and have an agreed support plan
- Have a severe sensory impairment and have an agreed support plan
- Are supported by a carer from a recognised agency
To apply for this service free of charge, please complete the application form submitting copies of all relevant supporting information. A copy of the application form is available at the bottom of this page.
The service provided is limited to cutting the grass 10-12 times from mid-March to mid-October. Please note we do not remove the grass cuttings. We also trim hedges once during the autumn and winter months.
Tree pruning is also available on request. We apply herbicide to control grass growth around boundaries and obstacles before we start to cut the grass in March. Other gardening services may be available on request, such as grass seeding small areas of garden.
If you are not entitled to receive a free gardening service you may wish to consider the council providing a gardening service for a small weekly charge.
If you would like to know more about this service, please contact the Grounds Maintenance Service.
