As part of the council’s commitment to being open and transparent about how tax-payers money is spent, the salaries of NEDDC’s senior managers can be viewed online.

 
This includes details of the salaries received by the Chief Executive, Director of Housing and and Joint Directors of Corporate Resources, Development, Health and Wellbeing and Neighbourhoods, who are responsible for the day-day-running of the council.
 
Between them they are responsible for gross expenditure on all services of £66.017m (2009/10) and a workforce of over 400 Full Time Equivalents (FTE) - over 500 employees - who deliver key services to around 100,000 residents in the district.
 
These services include:
 
Administering benefits and collecting council tax and business rates
Elections and voting
Environmental services - including food hygiene, health and safety, and pollution control
Housing advice and support
Leisure services and arts development
Planning, development and building control
Regenerating the district and supporting local business
Streetscene - including refuse collection and recycling, street cleaning and grounds maintenance
Sustainable communities - including housing and community safety
