Chair of the Council
A charity which supports leukaemia patients will benefit from this years Chair's appeal at North East Derbyshire District Council.
Councillor Norma Dolby who represents the Sutton-Cum-Duckmanton Ward, is the new Council Chair for 2008/9.
Councillor Dolby said: "The Leukaemia Research Fund is my chosen appeal because it has affected members of my own family, which makes the appeal very close and dear to my heart."
Councillor Dolby, who lives at Arkwright Town, has served as a Labour District Councillor for five years.
The mother of six has always been very active within the community on a voluntary basis. She is Vice Chair of Governors at Arkwright Primary School, Chair of the Sutton-Cum-Duckmanton and Holmewood Labour Group, and Chair of Arkwright Community Centre.
Councillor Dolby was very active during the miner's strike in 1984 and during the methane gas scare in Arkwright. She was appointed by Clowne College as the local history tutor to record the village history which is now based in the archives at Arkwright Primary School.
Councillor Dolby also worked for Chesterfield College until retirement as a Creative Icing and Salt Dough tutor. She still works part-time for Spirita Housing Association in Nottingham and at the Community Lounge in Arkwright Town, which caters mostly for the elderly.
Councillor Dolby said: "I am looking forward to the year ahead as Chair of North East Derbyshire District Council and raising money for a very worth while cause.
"I hope this year's Vice Chair Cllr Lilian Robinson will enjoy the forth coming year as much as I did last year. I know that this year will bring many more challenges, but with the help of my family, friends, and support from NEDDC I will overcome them."
The Chair's consort will be her sister Mrs Veronica Linacre.
