Welcome to my web page
My name is Andrew Cooper and I am a North East Derbyshire District Councillor representing Pilsley and Morton Ward.
I was elected in 2007 and I am an independent elected member.
I hope you find the information you need on my web page, but if not please contact me - my details are at the bottom of the page.
A bit about me...
I have been a District Councillor since May 2007 and I am thoroughly enjoying the role.
I have already been involved in a diverse range of issues since beginning my role: housing, trees, parking, drainage, speeding cars and various petitions to name but a few!
I have attended all full council and Scrutiny meetings and various member development sessions since being elected in May. I was also part of a focus group that was interviewed by IDeA inspectors in October, they were conducting a peer review of the Council prior to the CPA inspection in 2008.
I have always loved getting out and about in Pilsley and talking to local people. I am always very happy to discuss residents concerns and issues. As I stated back in May, I am keen to represent local people at parish and district level.
I have a real passion for the local area where I live. I have lived in Pilsley all my life. I share peoples concerns about many local issues particularly anti-social behaviour, vandalism and health care provision.
I have been a Parish Councillor in Pilsley since 2003; it can sometimes be a frustrating role but also very fulfilling. The Parish Council is involved in a major initiative to redevelop the parish sports ground and encourage all ages and genders to participate in sport. This is something that I am particularly excited and enthused about. I am really looking forward to seeing our hard work come to fruition.
I am passionate about sport and it is essential that local clubs and groups are supported with decent facilities in order for them to survive and thrive.
I have been involved with Pilsley Cricket Club for over thirty years in many roles. I still thoroughly enjoy playing cricket but nowadays a lot of my time is spent coaching and developing juniors. I am presently midway through completing my level 2 coaching award.
Recently, I was awarded the Service to Sport Award for Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire. Subsequently, I was then short listed for the Derbyshire Sports Awards and came runner up in the same category at Pride Park. I was really pleased to be nominated and recognised for the work that I have contributed to Pilsley Cricket Club.
I have worked in Local Government since leaving school in 1979. I initially worked for Derbyshire County Council in various roles. I am now employed by Derby City Council working in Employee Development in the Corporate and Adult Services department.
Previously, I was the vice chair of the Staffa Health patient focus group. The group was set up several years ago and has been successful in raising awareness of services available at the local surgeries. The group organised two very successful open days at Pilsley and Tibshelf surgeries.
I was also a governor at Pilsley Primary School for eleven years between 1995 and 2006. I was chair of the governing body for seven years, a role that I thoroughly enjoyed and found most rewarding.
Thanks for taking the time to read my short biography.
