Tributes have been paid to Cllr Michael Emmens, who sadly passed away on 7 January 2014 after a long illness.
Cllr Emmens (right), Conservative member for Coal Aston, had served as an NEDDC councillor since 1999.
He was a former Chairman of Economic Regeneration, Skills and Environment Scrutiny Committee and was also, for a short time, Deputy Leader of the Conservative Group.
He was a First Responder for East Midlands Ambulance Service and was also Chair of Governors for Northfield Junior School, Dronfield, and Chair of the Pioneer Health & Housing Committee, as well as serving on Dronfield Town Council.
Cllr Martin Thacker MBE, Leader of NEDDC’s Conservative Group, said: “Mike cared passionately about North East Derbyshire and was particularly engaged in so many ways with the community of Dronfield.
“He was loyal, hardworking, honest and trustworthy. Mike was respected by all sides of the Council Chamber and will be missed by colleagues.
“He was a family man and I am sure Mike's passing will leave an emptiness for those who love him.
“Mike Emmens was a true gentleman and 'gentle man'.”
Council Leader, Cllr Graham Baxter MBE, said: “Councillor Emmens was a well-known and respected member, who had served on the council for almost 15 years.
“Our thoughts are with his family at this very sad time.”
