Welcome to my web page
My name is Peter Riggott and I am a North East Derbyshire District Councillor representing Clay Cross South Ward.
I was elected in 1999 and represent the Labour Party.
I hope you find the information you need on my web page, but if not please contact me - my details are at the bottom of the page.
A bit about me...
I was born in 1948 and have lived in Clay Cross and Danesmoor all my life.
I have 2 younger sisters and 2 younger brothers. I married a local (Danesmoor) girl, and we have 2 children Paul & Tracey, both our children have settled in the Danesmoor area bringing up our 4 grandchildren.
Living in a beautiful part of the Derbyshire countryside, Clay Cross is an area I love and cherish dearly, an area that while beautiful its communities over the years have suffered from the demise of the mining industry and the loss of major employers including the closure of Clay Cross Works. Some of its communities through no fault of their own were plunged into deprivation and some areas into dereliction.
I believe as a family group, like many other families within the area, we have made a major investment in the community in which we live. These are some of the reasons I became involved in local politics, I wanted to see things improve. I wanted to see Clay Cross and its communities grow & prosper.
I want us all to have the best opportunities to services that local authorities an offer. Services like education, housing, leisure facilities, health, employment and many more; all these services are now available to us. Some are excellent, some good and some need improvement; these
are the services I have fought to keep and I will fight for their continuation and improvement.
I became a member of the Clay Cross Labour Party in 1982 and I have represented the people of Clay Cross and the Labour Party on numerous local organisations and communities.
Currently I represent the people of Clay Cross on the following: Derbyshire County Council, Clay Cross Parish Council, as a school governor at Clay Cross infant & junior schools and Tupton Hall school. I am a board member of Rykneld Homes and I am presently Chair of the new primary school temporary governing body.
It is an honour to be able to represent the people of Clay Cross South on the North East Derbyshire District Council.
Whether it is the council tax, housing, highways, education or any other council services, local government decisions affect us all, local politics affects us all. We all need to be engaged and involved in the decision-making process. By working together young & old, we can make life better for all.

Health and Safety Group
I am also Cabinet Member with Portfolio for Community Safety and Health
