There are several different types of election that you may be able to vote in.

Local Elections

 
Local Elections are held once every four years. At local elections you are voting to elect North East Derbyshire District councillors who will represent your views for the ward (area) in which you live.

Parish Elections

 
Parish Elections are held once every four years and are usually held at the same time as local elections. In these elections, you are voting to elect parish councillors who will represent you in the area that you live. Find out more about your local parish council.

County Elections

 
County Elections are held once every four years. In these elections, you are voting for a Derbyshire County Councillor to represent the electoral division where you live. There are nine electoral divisions within North East Derbyshire. Find out more about your Derbyshire County Councillor.

Parliamentary Elections

 
Parliamentary Elections, commonly known as General Elections, are held when the current Prime Minister calls an election. In this election, you are voting to elect a Member of Parliament (MP) who will represent your views within Parliament. MPs have a seat in the House of Commons and the party with the most seats will form the government and rule the country. Find out about your local MP.

European Elections

 
European Elections are held every five years, usually in June. In this election, you are voting for a political party rather than an individual candidate to represent your views in the European Parliament. Find out about the European Parliament.

Referendums

 
Referendums are held at the request of the government, and ask you to vote yes or no to a specific proposal. If you are entitled to vote in parliamentary elections you will be eligible to vote in a referendum.
 
The Local Authority (Referendums)(Petitions & Directions)(England) Regulations 2000
 
In accordance with Regulation 4(1) of the above regulations we are required to publish the number which is equal to 5% of the number of local government electors. Find out more in the attachment below
