Pilsley Parish Council
Please Note: The next Pilsley Parish Council Meeting is to be held on Thursday 9th February 2012 at 6.30pm in the Village Hall.
Pilsley village has a population of over 3000. The village is similar to many in the surrounding areas with a church and two primary schools. There are several local shops, a doctors, chemist, post office and four public houses.
Pilsley Parish Council is very keen to support all its residents both young and old. The council has been very proactive over recent years and has provided excellent facilities particularly for the younger members of society.
We hope you find our web page interesting, please feel free to take a look at our meetings information below.
In memory of our mining history
Pilsley, a former mining village, had its own mining monument erected in the shape of two winding wheels.
Mining played a large part in the community. Although the pit in the village has been closed for fifty years, the parish council wanted to ensure that through the monument past traditions and memories were not lost, and hope that the wheels will be a lasting memory for many generations.
Sports Ground Project
We are presently working hard to improve sporting facilities in the village and provide more opportunities for people to take up sport.
The 'sports ground project' as it is known to the parish council is moving along well. The parish council has appointed a consultant architect to work with the project steering group and a funding consultant.
Although major funding for the project will be sought, the parish council and clubs in the village will need to show that they can also raise money too.
Last year several fund raising events were held by various clubs and pubs in the village:
Pilsley Cricket Club held a sponsored cricket day, over 70 people of all ages took part and many more helped to raise over £1,200 pounds.
Pilsley Bowls Club held an open bowls day event which raised £120 pounds.
The Start Inn held a Skittles event and raised £185 pounds.
The Parish Council would like to thank all the various bodies for supporting the project and hope that in the not to distant future facilities can be greatly improved and enjoyed all.
If you have any ideas for fundraising events please contact Graham Ullathorne or speak to any of the Pilsley parish councillors (details below).
Although the parish council know that the project is ambitious, it is hoped that with support from the community it can be very successful and leave a long lasting legacy.
Pilsley Village Hall
On to slightly different things – the council would like to publicise its village hall which provides an excellent venue for parties, weddings, discos, clubs for both young and old.
