Pilsley Parish Council

The winding wheel monument in Pilsley village.
Pilsley village has a population of over 3000. The village is similar to many in the surrounding areas with a church and two primary schools. There are several local shops, a doctors, chemist, post office and four public houses.

Pilsley Parish Council is very keen to support all its residents both young and old. The council has been very proactive over recent years and has provided excellent facilities particularly for the younger members of society.

We hope you find our web page interesting, please feel free to take a look at our meetings information below.

In memory of our mining history

The mining monument in Pilsley village.
Pilsley, a former mining village, has recently had its own mining monument erected in the shape of two winding wheels. MP Dennis Skinner cut the ribbon on the monument and gave a short speech to over seventy five residents.

Mining played a large part in the community. Although the pit in the village has been closed for fifty years, the parish council wanted to ensure that through the monument past traditions and memories were not lost, and hope that the wheels will be a lasting memory for many generations.

Sports Ground Project

We are presently working hard to improve sporting facilities in the village and provide more opportunities for people to take up sport.

The 'sports ground project' as it is known to the parish council is moving along well. The parish council has appointed a consultant architect to work with the project steering group and a funding consultant.

Although major funding for the project will be sought, the parish council and clubs in the village will need to show that they can also raise money too.

Meetings have been held with clubs in the village and a series of fundraising events will be held over the next twelve months. The first being a race night in the village hall on Saturday November 15th 2008. Tickets are currently available from any member of the parish council.
The parish council would be happy to see you there!

A full list of events will be published here when details are finalised. Events will hopefully include sponsored matches, walks, quiz nights, jumble sales etc. – if you have any ideas for fundraising events please contact Graham Ullathorne or speak to any of the Pilsley parish councillors (details below).

Although the parish council know that the project is ambitious, it is hoped that with support from the community it can be very successful and leave a long lasting legacy.
