Light Pollution
We investigate complaints about nuisance caused by artificial lighting.
Household and business security lighting, as well as lighting from sporting facilities, can sometimes be intrusive and cause a nuisance to other businesses and people in their homes.
We encourage people unhappy about a security light to discuss the matter with the person concerned to try and sort out the matter informally if possible. If this is not successful, or if they feel unable to do this, we will investigate the problem and work with the people involved to reach a solution.
Security lighting on business premises is covered by the same rules, but may also be bound by planning controls.
We don't normally investigate festive Christmas lighting due to the short duration. Problems with street lighting should be referred to Derbyshire County Council.
