Home Improvement Grants
Home improvement is a rapidly growing interest for many residents and homeowners. However, certain alterations may be subject to Building Control Regulations and Planning Permission.
North East Derbyshire District Council and the Home Improvement Agency operates a number of grant schemes to help people living in owner occupied housing to meet the costs of having their homes improved and repaired. All repair grants are at the discretion of the Council and currently applicants must be over 60, on income related benefits, and must have owned and lived in the premises for a minimum of 3 years. All grants are repayable at the time when the property is disposed of.
You may also be able to get help towards loft insulation or draught-proofing. The Government's Warm Front scheme can provide FREE energy efficiency and heating measures for people receiving certain benefits or credits. If you are also aged over 60 you may even qualify for central heating. Contact the Council's Energy Advice Centre (details at bottom of page).
If you live in a Council Property you will NOT be eligible for a grant, but will require permission for certain home improvements. For more details contact your local area housing office.
