Licensing Enforcement
North East Derbyshire District Council is the enforcement authority for pub, theatre, cinema and taxi/private hire licences. It also deals with amusements with prizes, late night refreshment houses, skin piercing activities, animal welfare licensing, zoos and pet shops.
Licensing is a statutory duty carried out by the Council, for the purpose of protecting people and animals, and covers a wide range of activities.

The Licensing Act will modernise licensing legislation and provide greater freedom for the leisure and hospitality industry and their users.
- Sunday Trading Act 1994
Sunday trading permits any shop to open for no longer than 6 continuous hours between the hours of 10am and 6pm, provided that the occupier of the shop has notified the local authority of their intentions.
- The Three Point Licensing Action Plan
The recent introduction of new licensing laws gives residents and public bodies more powers than ever before to hold pubs and clubs to account/accountable for rowdy behaviour.
- Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982The Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982 Part VIII requires the following types of skin piercing need be registered with the Council:- Acupuncture, Tattooing, Ear-piercing and Electrolysis.
- Taxi LicencesLicences are required for all drivers of Private Hire Vehicles and Hackney Carriages, as well as the vehicles they drive and their operators.
- Fundraising LicencesCharity fundraising such as house to house collections, street collections and small lotteries/raffles etc must be carried out under a licence issued by the Council.
