Private Hire Operator's Licence
All Private Hire drivers must work for a Licensed Operator. To apply for a Private Hire Operator’s Licence, an application form must be completed and submitted with the appropriate fee (see Taxi Licence Fees for details of the current charges). If you are applying with someone else then you both need to fill in an application form. There is also a further annual fee of £11 for each vehicle you operate under your licence. Please call the Council's Licensing Section to apply for an Operator's Licence.
If you are operating more than one vehicle from a domestic property, you may require Planning Permission. To do this you will need to contact a Planning Officer from North East Derbyshire District Council.
If you live in a Council owned property you will also need written permission from the Housing Officer to be able to use the property for business purposes.
If the property you are going to operate from is a business premise then proof of ownership or a copy of a lease will be required. Whatever premises you use, they must be based within the area of North East Derbyshire District Council.
A Criminal Records Bureau check is also required to make sure that you are a fit and proper person to hold a Private Hire Operator’s Licence.
If you are granted a licence it will be subject Conditions, these are shown in the Private Hire Operator’s Licence Conditions which is available to download below. If you breach any of these conditions the Council could suspend or revoke your licence.
The Licence is renewed annually. You will be sent a reminder to renew this about three weeks before it expires.
