We aim to help older people, people on low incomes and those with disabilities who are either home owners or who privately rent accommodation in the district, to live safely, securely and comfortably in their homes.
Whatever repairs or improvements your home needs to make it more comfortable or easier to live in, our friendly team will help you find the most suitable solution, and where appropriate act on your behalf.
We can visit your home and offer free advice on practical solutions to the following:
- Income maximisation - helping you get the benefits you are entitled to
- Security measures - door chains, door locks, window locks
- Safety measures - comprehensive home check for accident prevention, smoke detectors, grab rails
- Energy efficiency - energy saving light bulbs, insulation, draught proofing
- Adaptations - lifts (stair, vertical and bath lifts), wheelchair ramps, ground floor extensions
- Repairs and improvements - re-wiring, plumbing, roof repairs, gutters and downpipes, re-roofing, damp treatment, repairs to and new windows, central heating.
Covering the cost of improvements
Our advice is free and you are under no obligation to go ahead with any work. If you do wish to make improvements you may be eligible for a loan to help pay for the work, alternatively we can advise you on how to fund the work yourself.
There are a number of schemes to help householders with the costs of having their homes improved, insulated or adapted to meet their needs:
Home Repair Assistance - to help vulnerable people improve the quality of their home and pay for essential repairs.
Disabled Facilities Grants - to help adapt homes to meet the needs of people with disabilities.
Insulation Grants - to help towards central heating, loft insulation or draught-proofing for older people or those on benefits.
Organising improvements
Once you have decided what needs to be done, we can help you choose reputable tradesmen who will supply estimates for the cost of work and may be able to help organise and supervise the job from start to finish.
Handy Van Service
Our free Handy Van service helps provide vulnerable people with security and safety fittings and advice, and can also help with minor household repairs.
Energy Advice
