Business Waste Recycling
Welcome To Our New Business Waste Recycling Pages!
This new section of our website has been developed to provide information and advice to businesses in North East Derbyshire District Council's area on reducing, reusing, and recycling business waste.
From here you will find ideas on how to manage your waste, how low cost or no cost measures of reducing your waste could have a big impact on your company finances and what implications the new Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment (WEEE) Regulations could have on your business. You can also link to a directory of local companies which may be able to recycle, reuse or dispose of your waste products.
Why Recycle Business Waste?
Every business, from the smallest café to the largest store, produces waste. The combination of decreasing landfill space and increasing landfill tax is making it more expensive to dispose of waste. A typical business can spend up to 4% of their annual turnover on waste disposal, which is leading to more and more businesses choosing to adopt the 3R’s of Reduce, Re-use and Recycle in a bid to cut waste costs.
Whether you’re a construction company or a consultancy there are some simple things you can do today to start to reduce, reuse and recycle your waste:
- Reduce potential waste by only ordering the amount of materials you need
- Reuse cardboard boxes and packaging for new deliveries
- Use both sides of paper before recycling it
Starting up recycling collections from your business can be easy, talk to your current waste contractors as they will often be able to offer you services to dispose of your waste which may be cost neutral or even cost less than your current arrangement, with many offering flexible collections to suit your companies needs. Any savings you make will increase as the cost of waste disposal through landfill continues to rise.
Sometimes It Pays To Think Outside The Box!
Are there less obvious solutions to managing your waste? Can another company benefit from your waste such as cardboard for a packaging company or palettes for a delivery company? These solutions are often cost free, making your company a big saving straight away.
Need Some Extra Incentives?
There are other reasons why reducing, re-using and recycling your waste can give a boost to your company:
- Waste disposal costs will decrease if you commit to reducing, reusing and recycling.
- Costs of raw materials should decrease as the amounts of waste you produce are reduced and reused.
- The environmental benefits of less waste and less energy and water used to produce raw materials.
- Being an environmentally conscious company is good for PR.
- Being committed to reducing waste can be great for staff morale.
