Recycle With Freecycle
Car boot sales are a great way to get rid of your once loved treasures, but getting something for free is even better!
Freecycle is the on-line network which allows people to 'recycle' unwanted items by offering them free to other users, matching un-used items with the people that want them. Started in 2003 in the United States, Freecycle quickly went global, with the first UK based group being set up in London in 2003. There are now 459 groups across the UK with over a million members!
The aim of the network is to keep items that can be re-used out of landfill sites. By re-using what we already have, the need to manufacture new goods is reduced. Which then lessens the impact we have on the planet. Membership is free so if you have toys, clothes, furniture or just about anything else that you don't need any more, you can offer it to your local Freecycle group.
You don't have to be offering something to use Freecycle, you can also ask for something by posting a message describing what you need and someone else may have what you're looking for!
It is important to remember that everything posted must be free, legal and appropriate for all ages.
The person who posts each item then decides who to give it to and arranges a collection time and date. It's that easy! Non-Profit organisations such as charities can benefit too, all you need to do is say that you want your items to go to a non-profit organisation when you post them. It's your choice!
Get started today by visiting Freecycle and discover that one person's trash can really can be another person's treasure!
