Real Nappy Scheme

Over eight million disposable nappies are thrown away every day in Britain and disposable nappies from one child can make up to 50% of the contents of your Black Bin! There is a real alternative, reusable nappies are not like they used to be!  There is currently a money back scheme on the purchasing of real nappies, where you claim £25 back when spending £50 or more on real nappies.  For further information on the Real Nappy Scheme, contact Derbyshire County Council on 01629 580000 ext 7051 or click on the link on the left hand side of this page.

The Free Tree Scheme

For several years now, North East Derbyshire District Council has been running a Free Tree Scheme usually around October. The 2007/2008 scheme offered up to 75 saplings each for householders, community groups and schools in the district.  The Council has given away almost 20,000 saplings since the scheme began several years ago.  Contact information will be placed on this website and in the local press when the scheme is in operation.

Safety Crew

The annual Safety Crew event helps with the education of school children using everyday health and safety situations such as spotting dangerous electrical appliances, fire hazards and basic knowledge of what to do in emergency situations. Last years scheme, co-ordinated by North East Derbyshire District Council and Chesterfield Borough Council was supported and attended by Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service, Derbyshire Police, Central Networks and the British Red Cross.  The event spans two weeks in June and held at the Territorial Army's Wallis Barracks on Boythorpe Road, Chesterfield and has been a great success since it began in 1997.

Have A NICE Day

This series of events is organised for the senior citizens of our community.  They provide a one-stop shop for the over 60's and offer advice and workshops on benefits, welfare rights, safety and home security and how to stay fit and healthy.  This year, sessions have been held at various locations around the district. Details of any forthcoming sessions will be placed in the local press.

"Spring Clean"

The Council has litter pickers, safety gloves and bin bags that community groups can use free of charge in order to undertake a litter pick in their area.  These can be requested at anytime of the year and need to be collected and returned from the main offices on Saltergate, Chesterfield.  In the past, these have been used by the residents of Cutthorpe and the Cubs/Scouts.  Some groups get local people to sponsor their litter pick.
