Recycle For Schools

Recycle For Schools - Pledges Mean Pounds!

The Recycle For Schools campaign will run from March to September 2008 and it will give all participating schools their chance to claim a share of £13,000.  The scheme enables schools to buy sports and music equipment or it can be put towards an environmental project, as well as helping to boost recycling throughout the district.

For every kilogramme of waste that you recycle, you could give a local school a major cash boost. All you have to do is fill in a pledge form to nominate a school that is already part of the scheme or you can nominate a school that hasn't yet taken part but would like to!

Over the past 39 months, the school that benefited most from the Recycle For Schools Campaign was St Andrews Primary of Dronfield Woodhouse, who chose to spend the money on musical equipment. North East Derbyshire District Council has given away nearly £32,000 to over 40 schools in the district as a result of people signing a pledge form.

To help your chosen school reach this year's Top 10 - see below for the list of our current top schools! - please fill in the Recycling Pledge form.

Please note, it is only possible to pledge once per household.  Duplicate pledges cannot be accepted.

Tupton Primary - Our Top Crafty Recyclers!

Our Crafty Recyclers competition has now closed -Thank you to all the schools that entered. The entries included designer reusable bags and even life sized cows made from plastic bottles!

Congratulations to Tupton Primary School, who are worthy winners of the £500 prize for their fantastic and thought provoking  piece of art showing a countryside scene as it is today on one half, with the other half showing how the scene may change in the future if we don't tackle climate change.  Created by pupils in Year 6, It was made entirely from materials the children found and reused, such as newspaper, sand, cardboard and plastic bags. The picture took over 2 weeks to create and will be shown on permanent display at the school.

The £500 cheque was presented by Councillor Nigel Barker, Member for the Environment, who visited the school to see the artwork and meet some of the artists themselves.
