Landscape Character Appraisal of North East Derbyshire
North East Derbyshire encompasses a wide diversity of landscape. The Landscape Character Appraisal describes the landscape features and defines its character and local distinctiveness.
These broad character areas are sub-divided into landscape character types, such as Riverside Meadows and Open Moors, to describe the diversity of the landscape within the District (excluding the Peak National Park). The ‘characterisation’ approach to landscape is based upon the principle that all types of landscapes are valued, not just the most prized landscapes. By identifying key characteristics of local landscapes they can be conserved and local distinctiveness enhanced. Wildlife and the habitats that support it are key components that also help to define unique character and local distinctiveness.
What is it for?
