Design and Access Statements
What is a Design and Access Statement?
A Design and Access Statement shows that you have thought carefully about how everyone, including disabled people, older people and very young children, will be able to use the place you want to build.
Without this information certain applications will be considered incomplete and will not be registered (and the application won't be determined).
All planning applications must be accompanied by a design and access statement, other than applications for works or an extension to an existing dwelling (except where the development is within a Conservation Area or involves a Listed Building). We will not be able to determine an application without this information.
How to write a Design and Access Statement
If you need to know more about Design and Access Statements, for example, how to write, read and use them, please refer to the Design and Access Statements webpage on the CABE website (Commission for Architecture and Built Environment). CABE is the government's advisor on architecture, urban design and public spaces.
