Access for All Supplementary Planning Document
Background
Applicants for planning permission are required to demonstrate how the principles of inclusive design have been taken into account in the design of their development proposal. Certain types of development proposal are required to be accompanied by a Design & Access Statement that demonstrates that the application is based upon a thoughtful design process and a sustained approach to access.
In the North East Derbyshire Local Plan (Adopted November 2005) the Council made a commitment to preparing a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) to give:
Design guidance for providing access for disabled people.
Guidance for the submission of Access statements
The intention of the ‘Access for All’ SPD is to highlight the most important principles to take into consideration when designing inclusive buildings and open spaces and also to provide practical advice for architects and agents in preparing the access element of Design and Access Statements.
The Access for All SPD was adopted on 21st December 2007 and was re-adopted on 17th July 2008 for technical reasons. It forms part of the North East Derbyshire Local Development Framework. A copy of the document can be downloaded in the Related Document section below. Alternatively a copy can be purchased for £5.00.
