Retail Capacity Study
Nathaniel Lichfield & Partners (NLP) have been commissioned by Chesterfield Borough Council and North East Derbyshire District Council to prepare a joint retail capacity study. The objectives of this study are to identify the need for retail development (food and non-food) within Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire. A final report was published in March 2008.
The study provides:
- a qualitative analysis of the structure and hierarchy of shopping centres within the catchment area, including the main town and district centres, local centres and existing large out of centre stores;
- a quantitative and qualitative assessment of the need for new retail facilities in the catchment area up to 2026. The assessment examines the need for both food and non-food retailing including different forms of facilities such as large food stores and additional comparison shopping provision; and
- a framework and strategy for retail development within Chesterfield Borough and the North East Derbyshire District.
