Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment 2011
What is it?
The Strategic Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) is part of our preparation and gathering of evidence for the Local Development Framework (LDF).
The main purpose of the Assessment is to identify potential sites for housing. The SHLAA does not allocate land for development but merely identifies the availability of land in our District that could be used for housing developments. The information that is gathered during this process will be used to inform our Core Strategy.
How do we do it?
The Council has been working with Chesterfield, Bolsover and Bassetlaw Councils on a joint methodology for the SHLAA. Consultation on a draft methodology took place in June 2008. The methodology has now been finalised and can be downloaded below.
Progress so far
In addition to doing its own survey work, in 2008 the Council asked the public, landowners, agents and other interested parties to put forward sites for consideration in the assessment.
A total of 501 sites were subsequently assessed. The results of the assessment can be downloaded below. The SHLAA report sets out the main results of the assessment. Individual site assessments can be found in Parish booklets. Parish maps are also available.
All sites located in the Green Belt have been removed from the 2011 SHLAA as the SHLAA methodology sets out that Green Belt sites should be excluded from being assessed. All Green Belt Site details have been included in Schedule B
Future Work
The Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment will be updated each year. You can still submit a site that you think would be appropriate for housing by using our interactive form. The Council’s Forward Planning Team will keep these sites on file and will assess them next in 2012.
