Residential Design Guidance Supplementary Planning Document
Background
A Residential Design Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) is being prepared jointly by Bassetlaw District Council, Bolsover District Council, Chesterfield Borough Council and North East Derbyshire District Council. The intention of the Residential Design SPD is to improve the standard of residential design by:
- Identifying the standards of design expected by the four local authorities in accordance with current national policy and guidance.
- Increasing the awareness and understanding of the principles of good design within residential developments.
- Providing information and guidance on the design process.
The SPD is intended for housing developers, consultants and applicants considering large scale housing developments, through to smaller infill development.
What has happened so far?
Scoping documents for the SPD were produced in 2006 and included a proposed structure for the SPD as well as the information required to carry out a Sustainability Appraisal. These documents were consulted on by key stakeholders and the council provided a response to the comments.
Due to staff changes, work was halted on the SPD in 2007. However, resources are now allocated and the SPD is currently being drafted.
Next Stages
A draft version of the SPD is being prepared and a formal period of consultation will take place in the Spring 2012.
A workshop was held at Westhorpe Business Innovation Centre on 8th February 2011 to debate and discuss the emerging contents of the Residential Design SPD. Attendees came from both the public and private sector, including planners, architects, urban designers and those involved in the development industry.’
Chesterfield Borough Council is hosting the supporting documentation for this Supplementary Planning Document on their website, which can be accessed by following this link
