Local Development Scheme

The North East Derbyshire Local Development Scheme April 2007 - March 2010 (LDS3)

Please note that LDS 3 is out of date and is currently being reviewed.  The revised LDS 4 will be published as soon as possible.  It is expected that the next stage of public consultation will take place in Spring 2012, subject to formal approval by the Council.’

The Council’s third Local Development Scheme (LDS3) came into effect on 17th April 2007. The full document or just the timetable can be downloaded below.  Copies are also available to view at the Council’s principal offices on Saltergate.

The production of a Local Development Scheme is a requirement of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 and is a key component of the system of development planning brought in by the Act. The system of Local Development Frameworks (LDFs) replaces the long established network of Structure Plans and Local Plans.
The Local Development Scheme is one of a series of planning documents that the Council will publish over the coming years. In time these will completely replace the North East Derbyshire Local Plan.

The North East Derbyshire Local Development Scheme sets out the documents which the District Council will use when exercising its planning functions.  The LDS explains what each of these documents are, what areas they cover and how they relate to each other. The scheme also sets out a timetable for the production of new documents over the next three years or so. The Council will measure progress against this published timetable and it will also form part of external assessment of the Council’s planning services.

The Local Development Scheme should be the starting point for everyone who has an interest in planning and development issues in North East Derbyshire.  The scheme sets out:

  • The documents to be produced and the linkages between them

  • A chart showing the key stages/milestones in the preparation of each document when the community will be involved

  • A series of schedules, one for each document, itemising its purpose, status, coverage, timetable and relationship with other documents

  • Notes on the project management of the documents
