Commercial Waste Collections
Who can use the Commercial Refuse Service?
The Commercial Refuse Service is available to all companies and businesses (including schools and residential/nursing homes - non-medical) located within the North East Derbyshire.
What is the legal position on Commercial Waste and do I have a legal responsibility to enter a commercial refuse contract?
All businesses have a legal duty to ensure they have proper and adequate arrangements in place to deal with the disposal of waste arising from their commercial trading activity. This is a statutory requirements laid down by the Environmental Protection Act 1990 (section 34).
How much does it cost?
Cost will be dependent on the volume of waste produced, number of containers, access arrangements and possibly the type of waste generated.

Types of Container
A range of containers are available to suit varying waste disposal needs:
- Totally enclosed
- Hygienic and easy to clean
- Highly manoeuvrable with easy loading heights
- Promoting a clean environment
- Mostly lockable with foot brakes
Available container sizes are:

All bin lids must be flat. No side waste is collected except by prior arrangement for a charge.
Commercial Recycling
The Commercial Waste Service does not currently include the collection of recycling. However, this is currently under review and a Commercial Recycling Service may be available in the near future.
Bank Holiday Collection Arrangements
Commercial Waste collections will not take place on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Years Day or any Bank Holiday. Please see Holiday Collections for further information.
Collections over the Christmas 2011 and New Year period
Special collection arrangements have been made for commercial waste collections over the Christmas and New Year period. Please refer to the information below, also provided in the letter dated 19th December 2011.
Commercial waste collections carried out the domestic crews
If you have a black 240 or 360 litre bin and present this kerbside to be serviced by the domestic crews, your collections will be carried out week commencing 19th December 2011. Should you miss this collection please present your bin(s) week commencing 2nd January 2012 but note that collections will be a day later than normal during this week.
Thereafter your next scheduled collection will be during week commencing 9th January 2012 on your normal collection day, continuing fortnightly thereafter.
Please note there will be no domestic waste collections week commencing 26th December 2011.
Commercial waste collections made by the commercial waste crew
Collections made by our designated commercial waste vehicle are slightly different.
There will be no collections made Bank Holiday Monday 26th December 2011 or Bank Holiday Tuesday 27th December 2011. Collections will be carried out Wednesday to Friday during this week, as shown below:

Collections during week commencing 2nd January 2012 will be a day later than usual, with Friday collections being made on Saturday 7th January 2012.
