When visiting the recycling banks,
Please...
- Follow the instructions on the recycling banks and put items in the correct recycling bank.
- Try to avoid using the banks at night or very early morning - consider nearby residents.
- Leave recycling sites clean and tidy - please don't leave abandoned waste which cannot be recycled. Please take your empty bags and boxes home.
Plastic, Cans, Glass and Drinks Cartons Banks...
- Rinse bottles, jars etc. prior to recycling - try using leftover washing up water to save water & energy.
- Remove lids and tops and discard appropriately.
- Crush cans and plastic bottles to save space.
- Don't deposit bottles found in the garage or garden shed, e.g. oil or pesticide bottles.
- Don't deposit sheet glass, light bulbs, Pyrex glass or glass tableware in the glass banks.
Starting in September 2008, household yoghurt pots, margarine tubs, food trays and plastic plant pots (Type 1,2,5 & 6) can be recycled in the North East Derbyshire District Council plastic banks. If you are unsure if the food container or pot can be recycled at the plastic banks, check to see if the Type number appears inside the recycle symbol - it does not always show, but if the number is other than 1, 2, 5 or 6 please do not deposit the plastic in the bank. Please do not deposit other plastic items such as garden furniture, plastic piping, toys, polystyrene packing and other general household waste.
Paper Banks...
- Don't deposit envelopes, cardboard or books in the paper banks (or blue box kerbside collection bags) as they contaminate the recycled paper.
- Don't put carrier bags in the paper bank.
- Shredded paper can be put into the paper banks - but please do not leave in carriers. Please be aware you may find it difficult to put shredded paper into paper banks on windy days, and you may find it easier to present shredded paper (in a securely tied plastic bag) for collection by the blue box kerbside collection crew.
Textile Banks...
- Tie pairs of shoes together when putting them in the textile banks.
- Deposit textiles in small plastic bags - carriers are ideal; if using black sacks, please only put a little in each. Fully filled black sacks won't fit in bank.
- Don't deposit duvets or pillows in the textile banks.
Supermarkets, shops and voluntary groups often have additional recycling banks, also see the A-Z for alternative recycling and re-use options for many types of household waste.
