Waste Minimisation

Recyclenow

In North East Derbyshire, we produce about 32,000 tonnes of household waste per year and this could double over the next 20 years. Most of our waste goes to landfill sites (tips) which are quickly filling up and running out.

We are working with residents and businesses to change the way we think about and deal with our waste to help protect the environment and meet Government targets.

To meet these targets, we need your help to:

  • Reduce the amount of waste you produce
  • Re-use whatever materials you can
  • Recycle your glass bottles and jars, newspapers and magazines, cans, plastic bottles, etc
  • Compost kitchen and garden waste.

We've introduced several schemes to help cut the amount of waste that goes into your black bin:

  • Burgundy Bin - To recycle all of your glass bottles and jars, food tins, drinks cans, aerosols, cardboard, plastic bottles, household batteries and textiles etc.
  • Composting Bins - To compost your garden waste and vegetable matter
  • Recycling Sites - Use your local site to recycle Tetrapak drinks cartons, plastic, paper, cans, glass and textiles

Our Live Cooler, Smarter, Greener guide is packed with tips and ideas to help you Reduce, Re-use and Recycle your waste.
