Dealing with disrepair in the private sector
We deal with unsatisfactory housing conditions in the private sector.
This may be in private rented accommodation or in owner-occupied homes if there is a serious hazard to the occupiers, or the disrepair is affecting another property.
The Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) is the main way we assess housing conditions but we have a range of other powers that can be used depending on the circumstances.
Landlords of Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) have specific regulations and standards that they must comply with.
