Gas Safety in Private Rented Properties
Gas appliances must only be inspected or worked on by installers registered with Gas Safe (which replaced the CORGI scheme).
Landlords must ensure that all gas appliances are inspected annually by a Gas Safe registered contractor, give a copy of the gas certificate to the tenant and keep a record of the checks done for 2 years.
We may ask to see a gas safety certificate when issuing a licence for a House in Multiple Occupation, or if there are concerns about gas safety in any rented property.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) enforce gas safety regulations, find out more on their gas safety advice page or call the Gas Safety Advice Line on 0800 300 363.
Can you smell gas?
If you smell gas extinguish naked flames, turn off the gas at the meter, open windows and leave the area. Call the gas emergency line on 0800 111 999.
