Empty Property Grants
This grant is for any property that has been empty for more than 12 months where we have determined that incentives are required to secure its future.
The grant is 50% of the renovation costs up to a maximum of £15,000 for each unit of accommodation provided and is available to owners of up to 5 private rented properties.
The grant is to fund essential works to bring the property back into use, as identified and approved by the Council.
In return for the financial assistance, if the owner is not going to use the property as their main home they must agree to let it out for at least 3 years for every £5000 granted. Tenants would be referred to the landlord through a registered scheme, such as a referral from the council or housing association.
We may also be able to give financial assistance for the conversion of suitable empty commercial property to provide units of accommodation.
All Empty Property Grants are at our discretion and are repayable when the property changes hands.

How to apply
Contact the Private Sector Housing Team for an initial chat. They will visit the property with you to discuss what works are required and then provide you with a schedule of work and the application forms.
