Strategic Housing Service
At North East Derbyshire District Council our aim is a simple one: to make a real difference to the communities we serve.
What is the main aim of the housing service?
Now that Rykneld Homes is managing our housing, the Council still has the responsibility to ensure that housing in the district is readily available for everyone.
We want to:
- provide good quality, sustainable homes that people can afford;
- ensure that there are enough homes in the district to meet current and future demand;
- ensure that neighbourhoods in the district are places where people are happy to live.
So how will we do this?
By asking the residents of North East Derbyshire their views, we have been able to identify a number of priorities for the service.
The 3 top priorities for the service are to:
- meet the decent homes standard;
- meet the needs of anyone at risk, including speeding up adaptations for people with disabilities;
- provide homes that are affordable, to meet housing need.
Making it all happen
Here are some of the resources we have in place to ensure the housing service plan can be delivered:
- we have systems in place to ensure the priorities are continually monitored;
- we have set challenging targets to improve service delivery;
- Rykneld Homes have some 400 employees whose job it is to provide the housing service on behalf of the Council;
- the money available to manage and maintain council properties is £9 million per year;
- we are making a bid to government for over £55 million to help reach the decent homes standard, this is through Rykneld Homes;
- the money available to the Council’s strategic housing role, including private sector housing, is £1.5 million per year.
