Ageing Positively
The Ageing positively in North East Derbyshire plan was developed in response to the fast changing needs and priorities of North East Derbyshire’s older population. Reflecting national trends the number of older people in the district is growing fast as more people become older and those older live longer.
- Over the next 15 years the number of older people (50+) in the district is forecast to rise by 10 percentage points to just over 40% of the population.
- There are 22,862 residents who are aged 60 or over, representing over one in five of the districts population. The majority of the population live within the four main towns of Dronfield, Eckington and Killamarsh, in the north of the District, and Clay Cross in the south.
- An important difference between the district and the region and national age structure is among the over 50s, with over 40% of the district’s population in this age band. The fact that 22% of the district’s population are in the 50-65 age group, 14% in the 65-79 age group and 5% in the over 80 age group has important implications for the future of health and care services in the district.
