Apprentices Open or Close
Apprentices must be aged 16 or over and combine working with studying for a work-based qualification - from GCSE's or equivalent up to degree level. They are an excellent way to find eager employees who will be trained up to a high level in order to provide them with the skills needed to perform their job. We work with partners to promote and recruit apprenticeships within the District and you may be able to get funding to help employ an apprentice. The Apprentices can be new or current employees and more detail can be found on Gov.uk website.
Higher and degree apprenticeships are available at levels 4 to 7 and combine work with study and may include a work-based, academic or combined qualification or a professional qualification relevant to the industry. If you would like to find out more, please visit Gov.uk or Sheffield Hallam University.
In April 2017 the way the government funds apprenticeships in England is changing. Some employers will be required to contribute to a new apprenticeship levy, and there will be changes to the funding for apprenticeship training for all employers.

Funding Open or Close
To help businesses grow, we can provide access to or information on a variety of funding streams. The main ones for our District are:
- Business Growth Fund - Funding for businesses that are not eligible for LEADER grants
- D2N2 Growth Hub - Grants to support and encourage economic growth in the area.
- LEADER - Funding of rural projects in the local area
- SCR Growth Hub - Support across six themed areas: Access to Finance; Skills and Training; Innovation; Export; Start-Up and Growth Demand.
For information on other funding streams please contact us.
Business Growth Fund
NEDDC has established the limited time pilot NED BGF to support businesses from areas within North East Derbyshire District that are not eligible for BNED LEADER Approach funding. Primarily, the eligible areas are the Parishes of Dronfield, Clay Cross and Tupton.
If you are unsure if your business falls within a BNED LEADER area or not, please use DEFRA's Magic Maps tool, which will help you determine eligibility. A guide to using the Magic Maps tool can be downloaded below. If after using the tool you are still unsure, please contact a member of the team (details below).
The BGF will generally fund any business sector which we feel does not conflict with our Council Values and will provide between £500 and £4,000 towards project costs. At least 10% match funding will be expected from businesses (meaning total project cost should exceed £550) who will be selected based upon their ability to achieve economic growth and/or job creation within the District.
Grants can be for either capital or revenue expenditure; examples of the types of activity which can be funded could include:
• Extending and improving premises
• Employing an apprentice (but not core staff costs)
• Development of the business profile to boost trade (e.g. website development, advertising, artwork etc)
• Business growth items (equipment including ICT and machinery)
• Business start-up costs
Businesses requesting funding to address falling profits will not be eligible as it is unlikely that the modest grant would enable a long term change to their decline. Expenditure such as feasibility studies, planning application costs and consultants fees would not create any direct growth output and is also therefore ineligible.
Although each application will be taken on its own merit it is felt that, in line with other similar grant programmes, it would be inappropriate to provide funding for stock and other consumables.
The Business Growth Fund will run from November 2015 until March 2019 and it is expected that all projects will be completed before the Fund closes.
All NED BGF documents, including Guidance Notes, the Expression of Interest form and the Full Application form can be downloaded below. Please ensure you are using the latest versions of the forms and guidance (currently "rev March 2017").
