Key Decisions

A Key Decision is an executive decision which is likely to:

  • Result in the Authority incurring expenditure which is, or the making of savings which are, significant having regard to the Authority's budget for the service or function to which the decision relates; or

  • Be significant in terms of its effects on communities living or working in an area comprising two or more wards within the District.

Please find the latest key decisions made by clicking here.

Councillors are subject to a Code of Conduct which governs their behaviour when carrying out official duties. This Code forms part of our Constitution.

The Code of Conduct covers matters such as declarations of interest, treating others with respect, not bringing the Council into disrepute. If you have concern about the conduct of a councillor (District, Parish or Town Council) and you think they have breached the Code, you are entitled to make a complaint. This should be done in writing using a complaint form and sent to the Monitoring Officer, North East Derbyshire District Council, Mill Lane, Wingerworth, Derbyshire, S42 6NG. The complainant should ensure that they have clearly identified the breaches of the Code they are alleging against the Councillor. The complaint cannot be about a Council decision or service delivery issue. We have produced a summary of the complaints process for ease of understanding.

Complaints are assessed by the Monitoring Officer who is responsible for deciding how each complaint is dealt with. The Monitoring Officer will decide, following consultation with an independent person, if the complaint is within the jurisdiction of the Code and if there should be an investigation, or if other action should be taken to address the complaint or the conduct of the Member, or if no further action is to be taken.

If a complaint is investigated it may lead to a Standards Committee Hearing and a sanction against the councillor concerned.

Councillor Smith, who represents Unstone Ward, was elected Chair of the Council May 2017.

The Chair attends a variety of engagements during her civic year such as formal ceremonies, awards presentations, galas, church services, opening new premises, visiting schools and local businesses, as well as hosting a number of civic functions.

To invite the Chair to your event, please contact the Chair's Office on 01246 217003.

Whilst in office, the Chair is given the opportunity to raise funds for a charity, Councillor Smith has chosen The Elm Foundation and Sexual Abuse Service and Sheffield Hospitals Charity the Spinal Cord Injury Centre.

Cllr Smith has chosen to raise money for The Elm Foundation and Sexual Abuse Service because of the valuable work they do helping vulnerable women, men and children in our area. The Elm Foundation and Sexual Abuse Service is a specialist and experienced provider of domestic abuse services. Its primary purpose is to support all victims of domestic abuse in the local area. It was established in 1985 when it opened its first refuge.

While Sheffield Hospitals Charity the Spinal Cord Injury Centre was chosen after Cllr Smith’s best friend suffered a spinal injury following a car accident and spent eight months in the centre. The Spinal Cord Injury Centre, based at Sheffield’s Northern General Hospital, treats patients who have injured their spinal cord and is the second largest specialist centre in the country.

Each year over 8,500 patients visit the centre from across Derbyshire, Sheffield and South Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire. A number of events will now take place over the coming months to raise money for the two charities.

To invite the Chair to your event, please contact the Chair's Office on 01246 217003.
