Creative Industries Support

If you think you are a ‘creative industry’ then you are in good company. A recent research project carried out by Derbyshire County Council has identified over 100 creative industries in the Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire area. These range from graphic designers to poets and photographers to playwrights – and far more besides.
Some local creative industries and individuals have expressed the need for a Creative Industries Network for all of North East Derbyshire. In response to this, a new network called 'The Greenhouse' is a partnership initiative supported by Mansfield, Bolsover, North East Derbyshire, Ashfield, Chesterfield Borough and District councils, Derbyshire County Council and the Alliance SSP. The purpose of the initiative is to create an online network resource combined with localised network events to support creative businesses across all partner Districts and Boroughs.
The Greenhouse
This has culminated from the work of two separate networking initiatives both of which were developing in parallel. The first, BAM Creative were developing an online network seeking to offer support to Bolsover, Ashfield and Mansfield (BAM) creative enterprises. BAM was inspired by the successful alliance of the three local authorities, having recently won a joint award through the Local Enterprise Growth Initiative (LEGI). The second, NED Creative offered a physical creative industries network, again in its early stages of development for creative enterprises across North East Derbyshire, Bolsover and Chesterfield Districts and Boroughs.
Analysis and strategic comparisons across both networks highlighted similar objectives, challenges, commitment and opportunities, therefore a strategic decision was made by both initiatives to amalgamate to create The Greenhouse. This ensures a joined up approach, creating economies of scale and avoids duplication across the two networks.
Elements of Support
The Greenhouse will offer a web based resource that will provide support to creative enterprise. The site will offer creative businesses the opportunity to access information on business and skills development support, events, access calls for tenders, place job advertisements and freelance requests and access a regularly updated sector specific news section. Additionally Members will also be able to showcase their creative work by having an online portfolio targeted towards people seeking to buy creative services.
Other sectors will be engaged to use The Greenhouse online resource to publish tenders for creative services and to refer to the site as a one stop shop for sourcing of creative talent within the area.
The Greenhouse will also run localised networking events. Based on geographic proximity, events will be scheduled for North East Derbyshire and Chesterfield and for Mansfield, Bolsover and Ashfield. Both localised physical networks will be brought together annually to extend network and collaboration opportunities across the two counties.
