Street Light Maintenance

It is important to keep our streets well lit to improve accessibility, safety and security of both pedestrians and commuters. It is of particular benefit to vulnerable groups such as cyclists, older and disabled people.

Who is in charge of street lights within this district?

The County Council are responsible for all lighting on roads, footpaths, major roads and some dual carriage ways that are owned and maintained by Derbyshire County Council.

Reporting a problem with street lights

If you're reporting a problem with a street light, provide as much information as possible about the type of problem:

  • Lighting condition / Problem - is the light burning all day? is it dim or flickering? has it been damaged in any way?

  • Column Number - Each lamp has a unique identifier, providing this number will enable us to solve the issue quickly.

  • Location - number of nearest property to the light.

If you report a lamp column that's leaning or damaged, an inspector will come out to assess the damage and determine how urgent the job is.
