Street Cleaning in North East Derbyshire

North East Derbyshire District Council is a principle litter Authority and undertakes cleansing arrangements to comply with the Environmental Protection Act 1990 (Code of Practice on Litter and Refuse) standards are measured in accordance with the Best Value Performance Indicator (BVPI 199).

The District is divided into areas with street cleansing frequencies to suit the location, with daily cleansing to areas such as shopping precincts and town centres. The majority of other areas e.g. residential estates, are cleansed on average 3 to 4 times per year.

This regular "routed" work is supplemented by carrying out "one off" tasks targeting problem areas as they occur e.g. fly tipping.

The Street Cleansing Service is responsible for:

  • Removal of litter & detritus

  • Highway and footway sweeping

  • Removal of various fly tipped material

  • Removal of dead animals from the highway

  • Cleansing of highway surface water drainage gullys

  • Emptying of litter and dog waste bins
