COVID-19 Support for Businesses (Grants)

The Government has asked local councils to deliver grant funding to affected businesses. The funding will provide grants for the period 5 November to 2 December and local grants that applied prior that under the local lockdown restrictions from 17 October to 4 November 2020.

More information on the Government’s package of support for businesses including loans, tax relief and cash grants, which is also available to self-employed people and sole traders, can be found on the Government website.

Local Restrictions Support Grant (Closed) – LRSG(C)

From 5 November to 2 December 2020 the LRSG(C) will be paid to eligible businesses with rateable values who have been required to close under the national guidelines. This will include non-essential retail, leisure, personal care, sports facilities and hospitality businesses.

A single grant will be paid to each eligible business to cover the four week national lockdown period. Grant amounts are fixed and rates are:

For properties with a rateable value of £15k and under: £1,334

For properties with a rateable value of over £15k and below £51k: £2,000

For properties with a rateable value of £51k and over: £3,000

We will write to those businesses that, according to our records, may qualify for this grant. However, we will need some information to enable us confirm eligibility, which will be collected through the LRSG(C) Online Application. Currently no deadline is in place although applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.

If you are unable to complete the form please contact one of our team who will be able to assist you on 01246 217114.

Additional Restrictions Grant - (ARG)

The ARG is a discretionary scheme to support North East Derbyshire businesses who may have to close but who do not have a rateable value. Grants can also be paid to businesses that are severely impacted rather than closed. The grant will be paid retrospectively for the period of the national restrictions implemented from 5 November to 2 December 2020.

As funding for this scheme is limited, the Council will be focusing on the following businesses for support:

  • Businesses required to close that are unable to trade
  • Businesses required to close that are able to trade by providing an alternative service instead
  • Businesses only open to those who have to travel for work purposes (and for a limited number of other exemptions which will be set out in law)
  • Businesses not required to close, but that are severely affected, for example as a result of customer businesses being closed.

Dependent upon meeting the funding criteria, a pro-rata grant of between £1,334 and £3,000 will be paid to eligible businesses for the 28 day lockdown period.

For more information please download our ARG Guidance (.pdf | 400kb) to check your eligibility before completing the ARG Online Application. In exceptional circumstances where an applicant does not have internet access, a postal application form can be requested from NEDDC Customer Services on 01246 231111.

Further enquiries about the scheme can be emailed to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

To assist the Council to manage demand for the fund we are setting an initial ARG deadline of Friday 11 December at 4pm. We will review this regularly based on availability of remaining funding and any future rounds will be publicised on this website, along with any amendments to the eligibility criteria. The Council reserves the right to vary the terms of the scheme at any time, and without notice, should it be necessary to do so.

The Council is also working through the ARG to establish additional business advice and online support seminars over the next year, so please continue to check this website for any forthcoming opportunities.

Local Restrictions Support Grant (Open) – LRSG(O)

The LRSG(O) is discretionary funding to support North East Derbyshire businesses under restrictions in LCAL 2 that are not legally required to close but which are severely impacted by the localised restrictions on socialising put in place to manage coronavirus and save lives. It is aimed at hospitality, hotel, bed & breakfast and leisure businesses.

The grant will be paid retrospectively for the period of the local restrictions implemented from 17 October to 4 November 2020 when we were under High Restrictions (Tier 2).

Dependent upon meeting the funding criteria, a pro-rata grant of between £934 and £2,100 will be paid to eligible businesses for the above lockdown period.

For more information please download our LRSG(O) Guidance (.pdf | 350kb) to check your eligibility before completing the LRSG(O) Online Application.
